Fish market located at the heart of Muscat almost completed

Published on july 4, 2016

CIG Architecture has been involved in the realisation of the fish market since the start of the project in 2009, when the well-known Norwegian architect Sn°hetta asked CIG to create and calculate a building plan for this unique canopy construction in order to prove that the roof is affordable and technically possible.

The fish market is located at the heart of Mutrah and is not only essential for the continuation of historical trading traditions but also for the needs of the growing tourism industry. The new fish market will provide the city with a strong focal point, layering local activities, the fishing industry and tourism in Mutrah, sympathetically uniting the old and new. The design introduces a new landmark on the waterfront along the lively corniche in Mutrah.

Within this project CIG was responsible for creating the 3D production model of the roof, including the 3D bending of 2400 aluminium lamellas and the 3D bending of the steel pipes. In addition, our engineers supported our partner Steelbuilding LLC during the assembly of the roof. The steel construction will be finalized in the coming weeks.
